PALMOILMAGAZINE, JAKARTA — PT Riset Perkebunan Nusantara (RPN) Senior Vice President of Business Development, Edy Suprianto, reaffirmed the commitment of Indonesia’s palm oil seed producers to strengthen quality control and ensure sustainable national production. He conveyed this during the 2025 Karantina Day Talkshow titled “From Quarantine to Sustainable Palm Oil: Supporting Indonesia’s Food and Energy Security,” held on Friday (October 24, 2025), attended by Palmoilmagazine.com.

According to Edy, palm oil seed producers have consistently complied with all government regulations and standards, including those set by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for palm oil seed quality. He emphasized that the palm oil seed industry is among the most tightly regulated sectors in Indonesia.

“In terms of regulation, palm oil seeds are one of the most strictly controlled commodities. Producers have followed all existing provisions, including annual monitoring and evaluation by the relevant authorities. However, unlicensed seeds are still widely circulating in the field,” Edy explained.

He noted that despite the national seed production capacity being sufficient to meet 97–100% of market demand each year, the spread of illegal seeds—especially through online platforms—remains a serious challenge.

“If law enforcement against the illegal distribution of seeds, particularly online, is not effectively implemented, it will be difficult for us to maintain a healthy and transparent supply chain,” he added.

Edy further stated that seed producers are ready to collaborate with law enforcement agencies and government regulators to curb the circulation of fake palm oil seeds that harm farmers. He also emphasized that cross-sector collaboration is crucial to strengthen supervision and maintain the sustainability of the national palm oil industry.

“We, as producers, are ready to cooperate with the government and authorities to reinforce supervision. Collaboration is the key to ensuring that palm oil seeds circulating in the market are genuinely high quality,” Edy concluded.

With stronger coordination between producers, government, and supervisory institutions, Indonesia’s palm oil seed supply chain is expected to become more orderly, transparent, and sustainability-driven in the future. (P2)
