InfoSAWIT, BINJAI - PT United Kingdom Indonesia (Ukindo) Plantation running palm oil plantation business now could produce electricity from the waste. The company, managed by PT Anglo Eastern Plantation (AEP) now sells its electricity to PT PLN.

"We have surplus of electricity, that is why, we sell ours to PT PLN. And the electricity from PLN is distributed to us,” Tranining Offficer, PT Anglo Eastern Plantion Management Indonesia, Kiswo, recently said in Village of Blangkahan, Langkat, as quoted from Tribun-medan.com.

He also said, the electricity they produced derives from the renewable energy through the liquid waste that produces methane gas. “The process of palm oil produces the liquid waste that has methane gas. It moves the turbine and produces electricity,” he said in the editor training of Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO).

Having more than 900 hectare areas, PT AES could produce electricity about 1 Megawatt. “We used 0,2 megawatt while the rests are sold to PT PLN,” he said. He continued, the liquid waste is advantaged to decrease green-house gas effect, based on ISPO standard.(T3)
