Hotspot Found, The Commitment of Stakeholders in Jambi is Questioned
InfoSAWIT, JAMBI–The environmental activists in Jambi questioned the seriousness of the forestry and plantation stakeholders in the province to prevent the fire in the forest and areas. They are considered to annoy the fire. The assumption rises because until this September, the fire still occurs in the areas of the forestry and plantation companies.
“There should be no more fire in the areas of the forestry and plantation companies in the dry season in this year. Jambi has regulated through Governor’s Regulation about the obligation of the stakeholders to prevent the fire. The regulations also regulate the mechanism of sanction to the fire maker. But it is not done,” Communication Manager of ‘Komunitas Konservasi Indonesia (KKI)’, Warsi Jambi, Rudi Syaf recently said, as quoted from Suara Pembaruan in Jambi.
He thought, the Provincial Regulation of Jambi No. 2 / 2016 about the Fire Prevention and Management and the Governor’s Regulation No. 31 / 2016 about the Guidance of the Provincial Regulation is not effective yet to prevent the fire. It is proven that the fire still occurs in the areas of the plantation and forestry companies during the dry season in July to September 2017.
In one last week, Wednesday (30/8) to Tuesday (5/9) he continued, there were 19 hotspots in the province. The hotspots were in the industrial plantation forest companies – in PT WKS, about 4 hotspots, in PT Lestari Asri Jaya (two hotspots), in PT Arangan Hutan Lestari (two hotspots), and in PT Samhutani (one hotspot).
Two hotspots were in palm oil plantation in the areas of PT Teramitra Indo, in PT Sawit Desa Makmur, PT Megasawindo Perkasa, and PT Agrowiyana was one hotspot for each. Besides in the companies’ areas, the hotspots in Jambi took place in the plantation and agricultural areas where the people cultivate.
“Jambi should be actually free from the hotspots for the dry season is not very long. Based on the regulation to prevent the fire, Jambi should actually has zero hotspot during the dry season. But the facts are in contrary,” he said.
He also mentioned, the fire happens for the local government officers might not firmly act to the forestry and plantation stakeholders where the fire happenned.(T3)
