RSPO EXPANDS SUSTAINABLE PALM OIL MARKETS

By the end of August 2017, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) in cooperation with Rainbow, a biggest supermarket in Shenzen, China, did campaign together to use sustainable palm oil within the theme, “Say Yes to Sustainable Palm Oil’. It was the second activity. The same thing was held on 10 August 2017 in Beijing, China.

Based on RSPO, the event was to promote sustainable palm oil to the consumers through many interactive activities. The consumers were offered kinds of product using palm oil.

It was to help the consumers to understand more about palm oil, the attribute, the usage, and take them to support sustainable palm oil and RSPO itself. The support is directly inform to the consumers and would contribute to protect the environment, and tropical rain forest.

When running the sustainable palm oil promotion, RSPO was supported by many institutions, such as, UN-China Sustainable Consumption Partnership, United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), China Chain Store & Franchise Association (CCFA), World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), and China Sustainable Retail Roundtable (CSRR). The institutions enlivened the Sustainability Consumption Week event in China. It is an annual event in the country.

In the opportunity, the consumers and the companies supported the sustainable policy implementation and increased the awareness to the sustainable products together with the supermarket, grocery stores, and stores in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou.

In the event, there was a launching about online animation interactive event that the members of RSPO and its partners proposed. The theme was “YOU are the One to Protect Tropical Rainforests!” The fact showed that the campaign was fun and interesting and helped to aware the consumers that un-sustainable palm oil usage would destroy the tropical rain forests.

The promotion in China was important. RSPO Global Outreach and Engagement Director, Stevano Savi said, China is the second biggest importer country in the world and also the third biggest palm oil user globally. It is normal that RSPO specially focused to sustainable palm oil development in China.

He also said, China is not the only the biggest user in the world, but also becomes the pioneer of sustainable development. “Sustainable development is the main target in China,” he said.
