‘desa siaga api’ program which has been successfully implemented last year is now developed to be ‘desa makmur peduli api’, which means, the same integrated activity in west kalimantan province which is joining three main elements, they are, preventing the fire, conservation, and food security

After ‘Desa Siaga Api’ was successful in 2016, PT SMART Tbk., the subsidiary of Golden Agri-Resources, through its business unit in West Kalimantan, Indonesian Palm Oil Association (IPOA) and supported by the Provincial Government of West Kalimantan, now continue the program by increasing it to be ‘Desa Makmur Peduli Api’ program.

CEO Sinar Mas Plantation in West Kalimantan, Susanto Yang said, the making of ‘Desa Makmur Peduli Api’ is the next program from the previous one. The program is to prevent the fire in the forest and areas and also to do other activity for the people and environment. According to Susanto, there are three main elements in the program.

The first, to prevent the fire in the forest and areas; the second, to protect the conservation and local ecosystem; and the third is to support the food security to the welfare of the people. “The making of ‘Desa Makmur Peduli Api’ is not only to prevent the fire but in the same time it tries to help the people to increase the welfare and protect the environment,” he recently said.

The making of ‘Desa Makumur Peduli Api’ still refers to the previous program which was done in partnership and developed the villages next to company’s palm oil areas.

In West Kalimantan, PT SMART has developed 8 villages, they are, Village of Lembah Hijau 1 and 2, Village of Sei Kelik, Village of Nanga Tayap, Village of Siantau Raya, Village of Tanjung Medan, Village of Simpang Tiga Sembelangaan, and Village of Tajok Kayong. While in Jambi, the same program runs in 9 villages. So there are about 17 developed villages in total.

In every developed village, the Taskforce ‘Kesiapsiagaan Tanggap Darurat (KTD)’ is made, consisting of 15 men. The taskforce should do patrol and monitor the potency of fire.

To increase the food security, in every developed village, the vegetable should be planted in the abandoned areas belonging to the village, including in the house yard.
