There is nothing left in Rianto’ mind, a villager of Dawas, Subdistrict of Keluang, Musi Banyuasin. His two hectare plantation will have Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certificate in the scheme of independent farmers.
In addition, the man who came to South Sumatera for joining the transmigration programme thought, the implementation of sustainable practices in palm oil plantation according to the RSPO’s principles and criteria just bothered the farmers. “In the beginning we thought, RSPO would burden the farmers,” he recently said in Palembang.
But after knowing that implementing sustainable practice in palm oil in RSPO version, it gives benefits and profits. For example, the practices save the nursery and increase the productivity.
Rianto told, in the beginning to implement sustainable practice in RSPO, there were lots of questions, such as, how to make owl nest and plant the mother plant to the fire caterpillars. “In the beginning, we did not believe those, but after seeing the result, we believe them,” he excitedly said.
